Have you seen the telcos advertisement in the television lately? Instead of showing some half nude girls, gay looking guys and showing just how immoral our teenagers are, the telcos advertisements are now focussing on inviting users to switch to their network without the need to change their mobile phone numbers. This is possible with the implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
Although the advertisements are looking friendly and for now there are no direct attack from one service provider to another such as "dont use DiGi, use Celcom!"

, there are however, network providers that mass smses their users to keep their numbers and stick with the current network, simply because they are the best (while at the same time advertising in the television inviting other service network users to switch to their's. Talk about shitty play!

The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) enables mobile phone users to retain their mobile phone numbers while changing to other network provider. Although implemented differently across the globe, in Malaysia I believe, we use the "Recepient-Led" porting method in which the user who wish to switch their provider should contact their new provider (Recepient) who will then arrange for the necessary process with the old provider (Donor). The price for switching should be maximum RM25.00 although some network provider offer this service for free. User can even switch their network provider via online. First they need to fill up the form in the website, then in a few days, their new network provider will deliver the sim pack to the customer's doorsteps, for free!. Yes, although you can still retain your mobile phone number after switching your network provider, you will still need to change your simcard to the new network provider.
The MNP has been talked about for about a year here in Malaysia, when until recently (October) being implemented. Last week, the Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor, who officiated at the launch of MNP said the service is a great convenience to the 20.6 million prepaid and 4.6 million postpaid users in the country."
Indeed it will sir...
Now the power is back to the rightful owner, the users. The battle of the Network Providers is now head on and at the same time, they now need to pay extra attention to the customers needs, as the users can now change to other network providers with ease.
Wonder if my wife's 012, my mother's 017 and my 019 can be implemented into the Celcom's 5+1 package... that would truly be wonderful...
