My Playstation 3 "Hagane" / Gunmetal Limited Edition With DualShock 3
After thinking and rethinking about it for some time now, I have decided to get a PS3. A friend of mine, has already got it and kept saying to me of how marvelous the graphic and gameplay of the games on this next generation console is. So, after being poisoned for quite sometime now
. I've decided to get one.
I started searching for informations about the Playstation 3 all over the Internet. That is where I found out about the PS3's potential to become a Digital Media Entertainment Center for the home. And to note, PS3 is also the cheapest Blu-Ray player available to date and as we all know, the Blu-Ray is the best quality one could get for a movie / sound. This strengthens my resolve to buy it even more.
My exploits in finding further information about the PS3 opens me to several options of the PS3. It is available as different versions, different bundle and different colors. Some of the options included were about its hard disk size. There are 20GB, 40GB, 60GB and 80GB. Now, there's also option for 160GB. For the 40GB unit, there are several color to choose from. You can opt for Piano Black, Seramic White, Satin Silver and Gun-Metal Gray (Limited Edition). As far as the backward compatibility is concern, All the PS3 version can play PS One games though if you bought a Japan PS3 unit, you cannot play US games, as they are still region locked. The ones that are capable to play PS2 games are 20GB, 60GB and the 80GB though same as the PS One games, it is region locked. A good thing that games for the PS3 are region free. So you can buy them in Amazon / Ebay without being afraid of whether it will run on your system or not.
Back to my story of buying the PS3, I had first wanted to buy the 80GB unit bundled with MGS4 (US Version). As it got a big storage, a free game and the DualShock 3 bundled together. But then I suddenly felt this sudden crave for the Limited Edition Gunmetal as the color suits me very well and the fact that I dont like the other colors which are too metalic and too shining.
At first, I called up my usual game supplier where I bought my Playstation 2 and other PS2 titles. He said that he previously kept one unit. But it was just recently bought. He told me to wait a few days so he can call His supplier and order a new unit. After a few days, the my supplier came back to me and said that the Gunmetal is sold out in the market. Whoaa.. I knew it, must be a very limited edition indeed (makes me want it even more)
. At the same time, a friend of mine told me about a shop in the neighbouring town which he believed he saw a hagane there. He gave me the phone number of the shop. I called the shop, the guy on the phone stated that they still got the unit and I asked him to secure the unit for me and he said ok.
On the night of 3rd Of September 2008, I went to the shop with my wife. I asked for the person I spoke on the phone to. I told him that I wanted to buy the PS3 Hagane unit and I want to buy several other things along with it so he should give me a very good deal out of this. He was happy to comply. The things I bought from the shop that day was:
- A unit of PS3 40GB Hagane Limited Edition + Metal Gear Solid 4 + Blu-Ray Disc RM1900
- A Remote Control for Blu-Ray Disc Player RM170
- A Composite Cable RM130
- Unchartered: Drake's Fortune (Game) RM190
All in all it was supposed to be a total of RM2390 but I managed to haggle the price to RM2260... well, it was definitely a bargain for me. Even my wife is impressed at the way I bargain with the seller
. She said "It was a good bargain as you bought a lot of things along with the system". Thank you My Love Czuka...
Just to be curious, I asked the seller how much Hagane was sold to the customer. He said that including this unit, they already sold 4. And they still got 4 more unit. What?! no wonder there was no more unit to be found anywhere else, they have gone ahead and ordered 8 unit when Konami first sold it.
I exited the shop with the Hagane in my hand. Thought about taking my wife to sip some teh tarik at the mamak stall first (a token of my appreciation to her as coming along) but it was a bit late so we decided to head straight home. At home I opened the box and was surprised to see that the supplied power cable is for Japanese outlets and not for Malaysian ones. I called my friend and he said that the PS3 is compatible with power cable used for computers / monitors here. I've tested the system and it runs perfectly fine.
Seeing the Hagane in my living room, I knew that I truly made the right choice. Next, my step is to upgrade this machine into the Digital Media Entertainment Center that it is sought to be. I've heard about streaming movies, mp3s and photos from pc to be viewed on the PS3. Well... I'll look into the capabilities later and will post here for the walkthrough on how to do it. For now, its time to let the PS3 do the job it was born to do, that is Play Games! ...
